Grand Portage Voyage of Discovery
August 3 - 4, 2019
Dear MnSTA Teachers and Educators,
You are invited to participate in a Voyage of Discovery, a free two day overnight camp experience. Each trip begins and ends at Grand Portage National Monument and includes a day trip aboard the Sea Hunter III to the Windigo Visitors Center on Isle Royale National Park.
Who should participate? Teachers and educators, youth ages 9-12 and an adult mentor (teacher, educator, parent, grandparent, youth group leader or other responsible adult).
What will I do? On day one, participants and instructors will explore and camp overnight at Grand Portage National Monument while learning camping and leave-no-trace camping skills, cultural and natural history of Lake Superior, Grand Portage and Isle Royale, and about tribal management of natural resources. On the morning of day two, participants and instructors will board the Sea Hunter III and cruise to the Windigo Visitors Center in Isle Royale National Park for an interpretive program.
What is the cost? Free, but registration is required.
When is the event? This event will be held three times. Select one.
July 13-14, 2019: Sat. 12:30 p.m. to Sun. 4:00 p.m.
August 3-4, 2019: Sat. 12:30 p.m. to Sun. 4:00 p.m.
August 23-24, 2019: Fri. 12:30 p.m. to Sat. 4:00 p.m.
