Then nominate that teacher for the MnSTA Science Teaching Award or start an application yourself. Two awards are given each year, one elementary and one secondary. The application is relatively simple, and few people apply. In addition to the cash award, the participant receives free registration to the MnSTA conference and is recognized at the awards ceremony. The application deadline is September 30. Nomination and application forms are at theMnSTA Awards website.
Also consider nominating or applying for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Two state awardees receive recognition in Washington DC and a cash award of $10,000 plus local recognition and leadership opportunities. This year 7-12th grade teachers are eligible. Nominations and applications are on the Presidential Awards website.
The National Science Teachers Association has several teacher awards on the NSTA Awards website.
