Job Description / Duties

The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking to fill a temporary position to develop and
conduct outreach to diverse student communities in Minnesota to promote public health
careers, particularly to students currently underrepresented in the public health workforce.
This position is part of the Health Protection Bureau's new INSPIRE (Introducing Students to
Public Health Initiatives Rooted in Experiences) initiative. It will have a wide range of partners
throughout the agency and the Minnesota educational system, and external stakeholders
including local and tribal public health and community groups serving the youth.
Working as an INSPIRE Initiative Coordinator, you will:
• Create a culturally sensitive curriculum for middle and high-school aged students.
• Work with subject matter experts from the Public Health Laboratory, Environmental
Health Division and Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control
Division to create a dynamic and sustainable student engagement program.
• Develop and maintain relationships with STEM education leaders, focusing on
schools with a diverse student population.
• Manage outreach logistics with internal and external partners.
• Make connections with schools or other youth organizations across Minnesota and
connect students with public health subject matter experts and career opportunities
in public health.
• Ensure that the needs of the funding agency and CDC are prioritized and met.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Three (3) years of planning, developing, implementing, facilitating, administrating, and
evaluating projects in public health or a related field,
OR Three (3) years of training, teaching, or curriculum development in a school or youth
organization.
A degree in public health, health sciences, communications or education may substitute for
experience as follows: A master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; a
bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; an associate degree may
substitute for six months of experience.

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in public health and knowledge of public health careers or
STEM career pathways.
• Extensive knowledge of a range of communication tools and practices, including
use of plain language and accessibility practices.
• Experience working with middle or high schools or youth organizations and end
experience in curriculum development.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing health and/or educational equity and
familiarity working with groups that experience health disparities, health inequity,
and structural inequities.
• Excellent computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary: 66,648 - 98,240 annually
