From Jim Wood and Judi Iverson:
This summer, the MCA test development team needs help with a special project beginning to develop Achievement Level Descriptors (ALDs) for the MCA-IV Assessments. The purpose of ALDs are to:
- Provide the criteria for establishing achievement levels (or cut scores) for the MCA-IV tests at standard setting
- Provide parents, teachers, and other stakeholders with a description of student performance
- Provide summaries in student score reports to help with the interpretation of test results
We would like to bring together a small work group to write preliminary ALDs, as we prepare for the first administration of the Science MCA-IV, based on the 2019 Minnesota Academic Standards in Science, which will occur in Spring 2025. We are looking for Minnesota teachers who have begun to implement the new standards, and can represent the full range of student learning in their classrooms. The group will meet in person near the MDE building in Northeast Minneapolis. The meeting will take place July 19-21, 2023. We are looking for a diverse group of classroom educators representing science education throughout the state. This workgroup will balance grade-level and content-area knowledge of the 2019 Minnesota Science Standards, geographic distribution and the diversity of our student population.
Benefits for Educators
- Build a robust understanding of and diverse perspectives on the 2019 Science standards
- Collaborate with Science colleagues from across Minnesota
- Earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
- Receive monetary participation compensation

Also, we could use your help identifying colleagues who are experts in Special Education, especially Special Education teachers who work with students with significant cognitive disabilities. The dates of that meeting are:
Special Education: July 25-27, 2023
Please share the above link with your contacts who you feel would be valuable members of our workgroup.
Thank you for your help!
