The Ocean 180 Video Challenge

Ocean 180 challenges scientists to share the meaning and relevance of their research with a broader audience and looks to middle school students to help evaluate their efforts. Ocean scientists are invited to submit 3 minute videos highlighting the importance of their research and summarizing their findings to Ocean 180 this fall.

The top 10 entries will be viewed and evaluated by 6^th-8^th grade students in registered middle school classrooms, ultimately selecting the top three videos.  Judging by registered classrooms will take place from January 2- February 27, 2015.

Last year, over 30,000 students in over 1,400 classrooms in 13 countries participated on our judging team. Registration is free and will be open until December 1, 2014. You may register classes using this link:

Why register your class?

By participating in Ocean 180, you have the opportunity to bring research and scientists into your class. We hope participation opens a new dialogue in your classroom and brings a different perspective on ocean science, science careers, and research to your students. What is required of registered classrooms?

All registered classrooms are asked to view and evaluate the top 10 videos during the judging period (January 2-February 27, 2015). We will provide a rubric for your students to use in judging the films as well as instructions for submitting votes once registration closes. You may incorporate the films into your classroom in any way you wish.
